THIRA's collaborators demonstrated some of the latest project's results at the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP)
22nd
September 2015:
The main papers describing THIRA's work
are now available online.
- HEVC coding optimisation for Ultra
High Definition television services: http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/PCS.2015.7170039

September 2015:
THIRA participants will demonstrate the latest development of THIRA at IBC 2015 in Amsterdam. Two demonstrations will be held:
- BBC R&D: EBU stand 10.F20 (Innovation Theatre) 11am - 11.30am from 11th to 14th September
- Parabola Research: DTG stand (5.A17) in Hall 5 and Future Zone with a poster about cluster encoding technology
30th June -
3rd July 2015:
THIRA participants will demonstrate some additional project's results at the IEEE International Conference on Multimedia on Expo (ICME) in Turin, Italy. The demonstration will take place in the special session on European Union funded projects scheduled for June 30th, 10 - 11.20am. More information available here. Related paper is available here
31st May - 3rd June 2015:
THIRA
participants attended the 31st the Picture Coding Symposium
(PCS) in Cairns, Australia. PCS is an international forum
devoted specifically to advances in visual data coding. One of
the main highlights from PCS this year is a special contest on
image coding technologies where proposals were compared and
assessed with both objective metrics and subjective
tests. THIRA participants presented three papers on the work
carried out in the project: one paper on adaptive motion
vector accuracy for motion compensation, one on the evaluation
of the HEVC tool set for UHD content and proposals to speed up
HEVC encoding and the last one on reverse visiting order for
compression of coding units. More information available in
these three papers (1, 2, 3)
12th May 2015:
Seventh THIRA at BBC R&D in London
19th - 24th
April 2015:
THIRA participants attended the fortieth edition of the IEEE International Conference on Acoustic Sound and Signal Processing (ICASSP) in Brisbane, Australia. ICASSP brings together leading engineers and scientists in signal, image and video processing from academic and industry. THIRA participants presented a paper on Multiple Early Termination (MET), an algorithm developed within THIRA and to speed motion estimation in inter coding

Fourth THIRA meeting at BBC R&D in London
28th July - 1st August 2014:
During the XX edition of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, THIRA participants set up a demonstration of video compression technology. Using UHD content recorded during the Games, the THIRA project showed a comparison between its own codec and the best AVC codec, x264. The demonstration was held at the BBC's New Broadcasting House in London
